Hotter summers. Failing harvests. Oceans warming i Hotter summers. Failing harvests. Oceans warming in silence. And somehow, humanity still keeps pressing “remind me later.”

In Episode 7 of Earthwise or Otherwise, we explore the strange contradiction at the center of the climate crisis — the world is witnessing environmental collapse in real time, yet denial, delay, and distraction continue shaping how societies respond to it. This week, we look at India’s stronger 2035 climate targets and the push toward renewable energy, Bihar’s collapsing lychee harvests due to extreme heat and unpredictable weather, brutal heatwaves and urban heat islands across northern India, marine heatwaves spreading across the Pacific Ocean, climate justice debates at the United Nations, and Germany’s struggle to meet its own climate goals.

Every tourist season brings an outcry to ban plast Every tourist season brings an outcry to ban plastic. First, TV and phone screens fill with scenery that makes city-dwellers sigh – a meadow in Himachal, riotous with wildflowers, or a lake so still it mirrors the sky. Then the camera pans, and there they are – chip packets gleaming in the sun, juice cartons flattened underfoot, and plastic chai cups scattered across the grass.

India has responded by banning single-use plastic time and again. But is that solution good enough? Sonam Raina (@sonamraina_writer) reports for Climate Action Live.

Clean energy that still raises difficult questions Clean energy that still raises difficult questions. Development that leaves scars on ecosystems. Solutions that are not always as sustainable as they first appear. Sometimes, even climate action comes with consequences. In Episode 6 of EarthWise or Otherwise, we explore the hidden tensions inside modern climate solutions and ask whether the systems being built to save the planet are also creating new environmental risks along the way. We also look at record-breaking global wildfires, the rise of eco-friendly construction materials, and the increasing health risks extreme heat may pose during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

One initiative is betting on adapting to this crisis. In Bihar, the Centre for Resilience, in collaboration with Waterstudio, is piloting floating homes designed to rise with floodwaters and settle back when waters recede.

It marks a shift in the thought process, from resisting nature to designing with it.

Our story by Alok Gupta documents this break in Bihar’s cycle of floods. Read from the 🔗 in our bio.

In Episode 5 of EarthWise or Otherwise, we look at how climate risks are no longer isolated events — they are becoming overlapping realities that affect infrastructure, economies, ecosystems, and everyday life all at once. From overlapping heatwaves and storms across India to China’s growing influence on Amazon deforestation through consumer demand, this episode examines how deeply interconnected climate systems have become. We also look at expanding wildfire seasons in the United States and a global summit in Colombia where nations debated what moving away from fossil fuels might actually look like.
